#2021 #Catnip #DryingHerbs #Apothecary #Witchcraft #Ethnobotany #EthnicCraft The Catnip pruning’s hanging high in the Apothecary to dry... Captured images, from 2021 of a Nepeta cataria (Catnip) hanging to dry in the witch apothecary, which is also the main altar room of the home. Hanging from ‘S’ hooks on the light ballast, does mean a little ducking to walk through sometimes, but I don’t mind. In some folklore Nepeta cataria is used as a love charm or in love spells. Personally, I’m against the manipulation of others ‘feelings’ so even if such spells worked I wouldnt’t do or encourage them. That said some cats go crazy on the plant (such as my furball Shalimar Fox) and the one thing the plant can do is ‘reduce inhibitions’’ and when used in crafting this is main purpose for me or in offerings to Freya, Thor and my feline friends. Real love is a two way street and is reciprocated, or it is just an infatuation etc, etc, and the same goes with platonic friendships and general community bonding, there’s commonality or there is none. When we are unsure of ourselves (and yes that includes extroverts like me too – I generally find society too uptight and ‘false’ and that makes me feel like a bit of a fish out of water), it can be hard to be oneself and we say, do stupid things or in my case I sometimes run away from interactions. Catnip or Nepeta cataria can relax one’s nerves and emotional blocks from the past (we all have them and they are normal reactions to life’s events, but they are not meant to stay the status quo). So I guess in this way , in the craft it can help in relationships of all sorts by 'relaxing and putting one at ease aswell as others' but to create what is not already there emotion wise, is a bit of a stretch for me. Had as a tea, carried as a charm, used in a spray, a bath (sky’s the limit) it can chill you out and others around you also, so you can be your real self with no pretence or jitters. You could say Catnip is akin to sharing a drink at the pub with your friends but on a non drug/herbal way (If you drink and I personally do not do any drugs including alcohol). This herb may intoxicate some cats but it does not intoxicate humans. I also enjoy the herbal tea when I’m down and out and want to feel more happiness to balance things out. These photos are from my botanical diary in 2021. From the Chapter ‘To be created’ Drying catnip guidelines

Hi there. Love catnip as a tea and the flowers make a great sweetner for any herbal tea.
