using the magic altar/space tool the besom & my diy altar version with a basic chant - ☽ ✧ - Δ - ✧ ☾ - the besom is generally used at the altar or ritual to purify & or protect the circle (field of magic created or to be created in) cleansing the air space is essential before magic work. This is done by sweeping away unwanted energies & astral build up. Before casting a magic circle, walk around the space clockwise (deosil) around the circle space holding the large besom version above the ground without touching the floor & sweep outward from the center whilst saying ones chant. In regards to small besoms like i have made here, they are worked over the altar space in the same manner, also not touching the altar. this is my diy version of an altar besom for ritual imbued with the properties of rosemary instead of twigs, cinnamon embellishment, a peacock feather, purple ribbon & a cushy handle of wrapped gauze around a pine shaft. the tradition is usually to make besoms from ash for the shaft, birch twig for bristles strands of willow for a binding cords the besom (broom) is one of the tools used on an altar (not for cleaning but for . As all tools used they represent either god or goddess with desire to balance both for healthy magic to work. The besom however represents both, god with the overall phallic shape & the goddess with its 3 main components (the shaft the bristles & the binding cord/wire - maiden mother crone or the 3 phases of the moon) one must consecrate a besom before magical use & once consecrated, used only for magical work. Towards the end of this post please find some material correspondences plus basic besom chant & tradition. From the Chapter 'besoms' what I used

tradition when not in use the besom is placed by the door to protect the home from unwanted spirits & energies. When standing a broom place with bristles facing up for luck (which will also preserve the besom) a besom can also be placed outside the door as a do not disturb 'sign' usually when a witch isn't home or is working & doesn't want to be disturbed a basic besom chant 'besom, besom, sacred broom sweep out unwanted, sweep out gloom rid this sacred hallowed site of minions, incoming ills & strife then set ye down her green earth by running stream or mistress hearth, this called once more on sabbath nights to cleanse once more this sacred site ...
